Cindy Suffoletto, Western New York Book Arts Center

Buffalo, New York, January 30 - March 16, 2026

The Western New York Book Arts Center (WNYBAC) in Buffalo, New York mounted the first-ever solo show of work by Cindy Suffoletto. The event also marked the first exhibition of Suffoletto works anywhere since her inclusion in “Autour de Kolár-collage” at Galerie Schüppenhauer in Cologne, Germany, in 1990.

Cindy Suffoletto comprised an untitled series of works on paper, largely self-portraiture collage using xerography and organic materials. Suffoletto may have begun work on this series as early as 2005, but completed the bulk of the work between the passing of her husband, the artist Andrew Topolski, in 2008, and her own death in 2012.

In addition, the nearby C. Stuart and H. Jane Hunt Gallery mounted an untitled triptych in oils, likely created between 1985-87.

A small number of works from the collage series went to family and friends after Suffoletto’s passing, but the bulk of the work was unknown until the pieces resurfaced, largely unframed and preserved in wax paper, in 2023 during the filming of I Am Here You Are Not I Love You, a short documentary about Suffoletto and Topolski.
